Chinese invented gunpowder, gunpowder is usually attributed to Chinese alchemy. Gunpowder was invented during the Tang Dynasty (9th century).  The earliest record of a written formula appeared in the Song Dynasty (11th century) from the Chinese Wujing Zongyao of 1044 AD.  It is listed as one of the “Four Great Inventions” of China.

What are four great inventions of ancient China? They are papermaking, gunpowder, printing and the compass, that had a huge impact on the entire world.

The fireworks were made from gunpowder, which is contained ingredients including saltpeter, sulphur and charcoal, after added chemicals for special effects.  

Many small sparks can light up the night sky.
